The 2026 Guangzhou Medical and Health Industry Expo (referred to as the Guangzhou Medical Expo), hosted by the People’s Government of Guangzhou and coordinated by the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission and Guangzhou Municipal Cooperation Office, will be held in Area B of the China Import and Export Fair Complex from August 21 to 23. As one of the key professional exhibitions of the 34th Guangzhou Fair, the expo takes “Greater Bay Area Connects the Globe, Innovation Drives Health” as its theme. Drawing on Guangzhou’s abundant medical and healthcare resources, continuous policy dividends and vibrant industrial ecosystem, it builds a professional service platform focused on in-depth hospital-enterprise docking.

As the core engine city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou backs on the Greater Bay Area, links Hong Kong and Macao, connects with global markets and radiates the entire South China region. The city boasts more than 7,600 medical and health institutions and 50 Grade A tertiary hospitals, with nearly 200 million annual patient visits. It hosts a cluster of national-level medical research platforms including Guangzhou Laboratory and Bio-Island Laboratory, ranking among China’s top tier in terms of density of clinical resources and strength in medical research innovation. The Guangzhou Alliance of Research Hospitals gathers 18 high-level hospitals. In 2025, the alliance’s hospitals completed over 300 technology transfer and intended cooperation projects with a total value of RMB 420 million, representing a year-on-year increase of over 42%.

On the industrial front, Guangzhou’s biomedicine and health industry has been designated a priority sector under the “12218” modern industrial system, targeting the development of a RMB 300 billion industrial cluster. The city is home to more than 6,500 biomedicine enterprises. In the first half of 2026, the added value of biopharmaceutical manufacturing rose by 21.9% year-on-year, while medical equipment manufacturing grew by 17.3%.

In terms of policies, the municipal health commission has rolled out a series of supportive measures including the “12 Measures to Support the Application of Innovative Drugs and Devices”, “12 Measures to Support the Development of International Medical Services” and “10 Measures for the Hong Kong & Macao Drug & Device Access Scheme”. The number of procurement institutions eligible for innovative pharmaceuticals and devices has expanded from 89 to 177. A total of 26 medical institutions have joined the Hong Kong & Macao Drug & Device Access Scheme, benefiting more than 12,000 patients in aggregate. Abundant resource endowments, a dynamic industrial ecosystem and sustained policy dividends together create a unique foundation for hosting the Guangzhou Medical Expo.

Three Themed Halls Covering 30,000 ㎡ — Full Industrial Chain Visited in One Trip

Covering a total exhibition area of 30,000 square meters, the expo features three themed halls and eight functional zones, expecting over 400 participating organizations and a combined attendance of 80,000 professional visitors and citizens.

  • The Hall of Frontier Technology & Future Medicine showcases cutting-edge achievements such as brain-computer interfaces, cell and gene therapy, AI-enabled medical care and innovative drugs and devices.

  • The Hall of Industry-University-Research Collaboration & Collaborative Innovation connects research platforms including Guangzhou Laboratory, Sun Yat-sen University and the National Center for Translational Medicine, alongside CRO/CDMO organizations and industrial funds, forming a bridge translating laboratory breakthroughs into market applications.

  • The Hall of Health Consumption & Quality Lifestyle covers livelihood-focused sectors including Lingnan traditional Chinese medicine, medical aesthetics, international medical services and health management.

Exhibitors span the entire industrial chain: national research platforms such as Guangzhou Laboratory and Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health on the research side; leading industrial enterprises including Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings, China Resources, Medtronic, BeiGene, Hengrui Medicine and BGI Genomics on the manufacturing side; and more than 50 Grade A tertiary hospitals such as the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital on the clinical side. Leveraging the Guangzhou-Chengdu Mutual Recognition Mechanism for Innovative Drugs and Devices, Chengdu will organize a delegation of tertiary hospitals and innovative medical enterprises to exhibit and hold a special cross-regional exchange session. Visitors can complete one-stop resource matching covering the full chain from frontier technology and technology transfer to clinical application and health consumption.

50 Tertiary Hospitals Bring Cooperation Demands — Immediate Negotiations & Dedicated Follow-up for Sign-offs

Pre-exhibition Pre-matching for Efficient On-site Talks

The organizing committee collected demand lists from more than 50 tertiary hospitals in advance and sorted enterprises’ demands for technology commercialization and market expansion. Pre-matching is completed via the online platform to boost on-site negotiation efficiency and eliminate ineffective meetings.

Dedicated Zones & Professional Teams During the Expo

Dedicated one-on-one negotiation booths for hospitals and enterprises are set up with full-time professional staff providing one-stop services covering matching, contract signing and policy consultation. A four-level venue tour mechanism is also implemented: touring groups composed of government officials, hospital directors, industry-university-research experts and investors visit booths on-site to collect demands and facilitate cooperation.

Continuous Post-exhibition Support Without Closing the Service Window

A ledger is established for all letters of intent reached, with dedicated staff conducting follow-up visits and coordinating relevant authorities on approval and project implementation. After the offline exhibition closes, the online platform remains open for demand posting, project roadshows and matchmaking, with regular small-scale targeted docking events held. The government-backed platform never shuts down — the expo marks a starting point rather than an end for cooperation.

25 Parallel Conferences Held Concurrently, Covering All Frontier Sectors

Twenty-five parallel conferences and special events will run alongside the expo, covering hot frontier areas including innovative drugs and devices, cutting-edge biomedical technologies, AI + healthcare, brain-computer interfaces, nuclear medicine, cell and gene therapy, inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine, hospital-enterprise supply-demand matching, technology transfer and industrial investment promotion.

  • Frontier technology sessions include the Frontier Cross-discipline Exchange on Brain-Computer Interfaces and Nuclear Medicine, AI & Medical Health Development Exchange Conference, and Sun Yat-sen University Life Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Project Promotion Conference.

  • Industrial translation sessions feature the Conference on Frontier Medical Device Technology and Translation, Exchange Conference on Technology Transfer & Medical-Engineering Integration, and Real-World Research Exchange for Innovative Drugs and Devices.

  • Additional segmented events include the International Medical Innovation & Development Exchange Conference, Special Medical Aesthetics Forum, and Grassroots Drug Supply & Safeguard Exchange Conference.

Notably, under the Guangzhou-Chengdu mutual recognition framework for innovative drug and device catalogs, Chengdu’s delegation of tertiary hospitals and innovative enterprises will host the Q3 Exchange Session as a special cross-regional event to exchange clinical experience and share resources between the two cities.

A free public health experience zone is open to citizens throughout the expo, offering AI health screening, intelligent TCM diagnosis, medicinal food tasting, free dermatology and aesthetic medical clinics and more. The expo integrates industrial exhibition with public health science popularization: while focusing on technological innovation, it addresses residents’ healthcare needs, driving mutual reinforcement and two-way empowerment between public health services and the biomedicine industry.
