On July 2, 2026, the Brain-Computer Interface Industry-Innovation Integration Conference and the inauguration ceremony of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Brain-Computer Interface Industry Innovation Alliance were grandly held in Guangzhou.
Using industry innovation integration as a bridge, the event aimed to foster broad industrial consensus and synergistic development efforts, while comprehensively advancing collaborative innovation across the entire brain-computer interface industry chain. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Brain-Computer Interface Industry Innovation Alliance was officially established during the conference.
Brain-computer interfaces represent a cutting-edge strategic field that integrates multiple disciplines and serve as a pivotal area for reshaping the future landscape of technology and industry. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area boasts a comprehensive industrial ecosystem, concentrated innovation resources, and diverse clinical applications, making it the core hub for developing China's brain-computer interface sector. The Industrial Innovation Alliance acts as a key nexus connecting innovation chains, industrial chains, capital flows, and talent networks; it coordinates resources across stakeholders, bridges technological breakthroughs with industrial implementation, focuses on advancing core technologies, establishing industry standards, and fostering an innovative ecosystem—all in service of national and Guangdong's broader industrial development objectives.
In December 2025, during the 2025 Brain-Computer Technology and Industrial Integration Development Conference held in Guangzhou, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Brain-Computer Interface Industry Innovation Alliance (in preparation) was officially launched. After six months of preparation, the alliance was formally established at the conference, with its initial membership comprising 124 organizations covering key segments across the entire industry chain—including basic research, core components, algorithmic software, system integration, clinical applications, and technology finance—ensuring comprehensive coverage of industry, academia, research, application, and funding. At the event, provincial authorities presented the "Guangdong Province Brain-Computer Interface Technology and Industry Collaborative Development Action Plan (2026–2030)," outlining strategies to support the cluster development of the brain-computer interface sector through technological breakthroughs, platform construction, scenario innovation, and industrial clustering.
Xie Ming, Director of the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, presented an overview of the Guangzhou Brain-Computer Interface Industry Development Cluster and its initiatives at the conference. Guangzhou will follow a development strategy of "short-term non-invasive expansion and long-term breakthroughs in invasive technologies," strategically establishing a "1+2+N" framework, accelerating the formulation of support policies for future industry pilot zones, fostering an innovation ecosystem for emerging industries, leading the establishment of the Guangzhou Science and Technology Innovation Fund with a capital size of 20 billion yuan, and enhancing the fund's guiding role in driving technological innovation.
