Medical institutions are the source of clinical demands and core carriers of medical scientific research. The capacity for innovation and achievement transformation serves as a core driving force for the high-quality development of medical institutions and the safeguarding of people’s health. To cultivate interdisciplinary professionals proficient in the full-cycle commercialization of scientific and technological achievements for medical institutions, optimize the management system for achievement transformation, and boost the efficiency of translating scientific advances into real-world applications, the Training Camp on Medical-Engineering Integration Innovation and Commercialization (hereinafter referred to as the Medical Innovation Camp), hosted by Guangzhou Laboratory and supported by the National Intellectual Property Operation Center for Respiratory Health Industry (hereinafter the IP Operation Center) and the Concept Verification Center of Guangzhou Laboratory (hereinafter the Concept Verification Center), will officially run in Guangzhou from August 14 to 23, 2026.

01 Introduction to the Organizer

Founded in 2021 with its headquarters on Guangzhou International Bio-island covering a total area of 197,000 square meters, Guangzhou Laboratory is a new-type public research institution dedicated to respiratory diseases and their prevention and control. Under the leadership of Academician Zhong Nanshan, the Laboratory has carried out major scientific and technological research programs and delivered a series of breakthrough core scientific achievements to safeguard public health. It boasts a comprehensive management system and a professional team for the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. Its Whole-process Intellectual Property Management System for Research Projects was selected as one of the Top 10 Cases of Intellectual Property Information Services released by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) in 2024, while its technology transfer cases were included in the first batch of Excellent Patent Commercialization Cases in 2025.

Established under the auspices of Guangzhou Laboratory, the National Intellectual Property Operation Center for Respiratory Health Industry is among the first batch of national-level industrial IP operation centers accredited by CNIPA. Focused on the respiratory health sector, the Center is building a Respiratory Health Industry Alliance, which already incorporates more than 50 member entities and over 100 industry experts. The Alliance aims to link up key industrial links including clinical demand mining, technological R&D, intellectual property management, achievement commercialization, regulatory review and market sales, empowering scientific and technological innovation through systematic collaboration to realize efficient technology transfer.

The Concept Verification Center of Guangzhou Laboratory functions as an in-depth service platform for achievement transformation. It accepts diversified projects, including high-quality ones screened by the IP Operation Center, as well as scientific achievements from medical institutions, research institutes, enterprises and Guangzhou Laboratory itself. By pooling high-quality resources, the Center provides full-cycle services covering technical/product verification, clinical validation, regulatory registration application and market promotion for all incubated projects.
