On August 21, the 2026 Guangzhou Municipal Digital & Intelligent Healthcare Achievements Launch Event themed Digital Intelligent Healthcare, Benefits Gathered in Guangzhou was held at the venue of the 2026 Guangzhou Medical and Health Industry Expo.
At the event, a full suite of digital intelligent healthcare outcomes was officially released, including the Guangzhou Municipal Healthcare Big Data Middle Office, resident healthcare portraits & digital family doctor services, the list of projects under the open competition mechanism to select the best candidates to lead research projects, HarmonyOS healthcare applications, and deliverables from the AI Empowerment Center. Two major ecological cooperation signing ceremonies also took place.
Data serves as the fuel for digital transformation, and the big data middle office forms the solid foundation of this digital intelligent healthcare system. In the past, data was scattered and disconnected; business systems across medical institutions could not be effectively aggregated or interconnected. This hindered continuous whole-life-cycle health management for residents and left public health-clinical integration without a unified data backbone.
Reporters learned on site that the Guangzhou Municipal Healthcare Big Data Middle Office integrates data collection, portal management, a data laboratory, security control and other functions, enabling full-lifecycle management covering data collection, storage, governance and utilization within the platform.
At present, the middle office has aggregated data from more than 300 medical institutions across the city, covering demographic records of over 60 million residents and accumulating more than 10 billion data entries including resident health archives, outpatient & emergency visits, and medical prescriptions. Three core basic databases (population, patient, resident health archives) and ten thematic databases (hypertension, diabetes, COPD, oncology patient information, etc.) have taken initial shape. The data laboratory has supported data development and application by universities, medical and health institutions and other organizations.
A relevant official from the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission explained that Guangzhou has pioneered innovative paths for data collection and governance. First, relying on the middle office, a distributed edge computing collection system of "1 municipal node + 11 district nodes + N medical institution nodes" has been deployed, with customized data governance models built for every hospital to realize on-demand, efficient collection of healthcare data. Second, a cluster of AI governance agents has been introduced to drastically boost governance efficiency. As the core data resource infrastructure, the middle office will fully support the development of citywide intelligent model agents and clinical research.
With a robust data backbone in place, how can data be activated to deliver tangible services to every resident? The resident healthcare portrait and digital family doctor services were officially launched at the event.
Resident healthcare portraits integrate fragmented data from medical institutions at all tiers, including clinical visits, public health records, physical examinations and smart wearable devices. After residents grant authorization, personalized, easy-to-understand multi-dimensional digital health profiles are generated. The function is now available on the official WeChat mini-program Guangzhou Health Connect, allowing residents to view their complete health timeline and overall health status with one tap on their mobile phones. When grassroots clinicians receive patients, they can instantly access medical history, allergy records and medication logs to avoid redundant inquiries and examinations.
Meanwhile, Guangzhou has built a 24/7 online AI family doctor service team that opens instant communication channels between residents and their contracted general practitioners. AI chatbots handle routine inquiries, while complex demands are transferred to human medical staff. The platform also delivers follow-up management, chronic disease screening, hospital appointment booking and other functions.
Since the launch of the HarmonyOS healthcare ecosystem in June, Guangzhou has rolled out real-world application scenarios including HarmonyOS smart wards and sleep monitoring cabins. At the same time, the Sui Medical Intelligent Engine — Guangzhou’s municipal AI Empowerment Center for Healthcare — has achieved scaled preliminary deployment. It integrates eight vertical industry AI models and intelligent agent clusters covering core scenarios such as auxiliary imaging diagnosis and chronic disease risk assessment, gradually forming a complete ecosystem of AI + medical healthcare products and services.
Grassroots medical facilities are already reaping tangible benefits from this system, as demonstrated by Longtan Health Center in Conghua District. Huang Yanjun, Deputy Director of the health center, shared that after the AI medical assistant system went online, grassroots doctors are freed from heavy paperwork and can dedicate more time to consultations, physical examinations and health education. Built-in general practice clinical guidelines and integrated TCM & Western medicine references automatically generate differential diagnosis and tiered medication recommendations for elderly patients with multiple co-morbidities, while issuing real-time alerts for drug incompatibility risks. The system compensates for grassroots clinicians’ limited specialist experience, acting as a portable on-demand clinical knowledge base.
For two consecutive years, the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission has run the open competition mechanism to select the best candidates to lead research projects. It solicits outstanding projects targeting key sectors, allocates concentrated resources for priority support, and accelerates the rollout of innovative outcomes through exemplary breakthroughs. All Phase I projects have completed evaluation and acceptance, and certificates were awarded to representatives of top-priority projects on site. The Phase II project list was also released simultaneously, selecting 40 vertical medical AI models and intelligent agents featuring high technical maturity, strong service adaptability and exemplary demonstration value. The initiative moves these high-quality models from candidate shortlists straight into frontline clinical practice, converting them into tangible, usable intelligent medical services.
A relevant official from the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission stated that the centralized launch of this full suite of digital intelligent healthcare milestones marks Guangzhou’s digital healthcare transformation entering a new stage defined by data-driven operations, cross-regional coordination and inclusive public welfare. Moving forward, Guangzhou will stay focused on the digital intelligent development roadmap: continuously consolidate the core digital infrastructure, iterate and upgrade vertical AI models, expand real-world application scenarios, and refine the industrial ecosystem. The city will build a more solid foundation, stronger innovation momentum, broader service scenarios and more complete industrial ecosystem for digital healthcare transformation, ensuring digital intelligent benefits reach all citizens more widely and equitably, and injecting powerful impetus into the construction of a Healthy Guangzhou.
