“Enterprises no longer need to guess clinical demands; they can engage in targeted matching directly against demand lists. This is demand-oriented innovation.” The three-day 2026 Guangzhou Medical Expo concluded on August 23. During the expo, all 50 Grade A tertiary hospitals in the city participated as demand-side entities, submitting over 300 clinical cooperation demands. Version 2.0 of the Guangzhou Hospital-Enterprise Resource Exchange Digital Platform, jointly developed by Guangzhou Daily Newspaper Group, the Guangzhou Alliance of Research Hospitals and the Guangzhou Medical Expo Organizing Committee, was officially launched. It went live simultaneously on the expo’s official mini-program “Cloud Medical Expo” and the New Flower City App of Guangzhou Daily, extending offline exhibition services online around the clock.
The most prominent highlight of this expo is the full participation of all 50 municipal Grade A tertiary hospitals acting as demand owners. To date, they have systematically submitted more than 300 clinical cooperation requirements covering 12 core sectors including intelligent imaging diagnosis, rehabilitation robots, in-hospital TCM preparations, and domestic substitution of high-value medical consumables.
Jin Chunlin, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Center for Health Development Research, observed that the expo has transformed hospitals from mere visitors into problem setters: “Enterprises no longer need to guess clinical demands; they can engage in targeted matching directly against demand lists. This is demand-oriented innovation.”
The exhibition lineup covers the entire healthcare industrial chain, bringing together research platforms such as Guangzhou Laboratory and Sun Yat-sen University, leading enterprises including Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings, China Resources, Medtronic, BeiGene, Hengrui Medicine and BGI Genomics, as well as all 50 municipal tertiary hospitals. For the first time, Sun Yat-sen University organized a joint booth featuring 3 schools and 7 affiliated hospitals, releasing more than 30 cutting-edge industrialization achievements on site spanning cell and gene therapy, radiopharmaceutical R&D, brain-computer interfaces and other strategic fields. Leveraging the Guangzhou-Chengdu Mutual Recognition Mechanism for Innovative Drugs and Devices, Chengdu dispatched a delegation of tertiary hospitals and biotech innovators for the first time and hosted a special cross-regional coordination exchange session.
The expo pioneered a full-cycle closed-loop service mechanism: intelligent pre-matching before the exhibition, dedicated on-site coordination teams during the event, and long-term follow-up tracking via ledgers post-exhibition. One-on-one negotiation booths are arranged throughout the venue with full-time professional staff offering one-stop support ranging from matchmaking to policy consultation.
Yang Jun, Assistant Vice President of Government Affairs & Market Access at CanSino Biologics, one of the exhibitors, shared that the firm brought six innovative pharmaceutical products to this year’s expo. “Two days ago, our drug Evoxitimab was approved for a new indication as first-line combined chemotherapy for advanced squamous non-small cell lung cancer. Platforms like the Guangzhou Medical Expo are invaluable to ensure clinicians learn about innovative therapies promptly and patients can benefit from them at the earliest opportunity.”
As Guangzhou strives to foster new quality productive forces in healthcare, life sciences and biomedicine, a core priority is accelerating in-depth industry-university-research-clinical integration and enabling hospitals and enterprises to accurately identify partners and seal collaborations. On August 22, Version 2.0 of the Guangzhou Hospital-Enterprise Resource Exchange Digital Platform, jointly built by Guangzhou Daily Newspaper Group, the Guangzhou Alliance of Research Hospitals and the expo organizing committee, was unveiled at the venue and launched on both the “Cloud Medical Expo” mini-program and the New Flower City App.
The platform can be accessed via the service section of the New Flower City App of Guangzhou Daily.
As Guangzhou’s first dedicated digital platform for hospital-enterprise resource interaction, it aggregates 18 Grade A tertiary medical institutions including the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, over 600 leading principal investigators (PIs) across specialties, and links innovative demands from hundreds of biomedical enterprises. It creates an integrated service model covering research, translation and industrialization. Centered on digital empowerment, resource aggregation and ecological co-construction, it aims to build a full-factor matchmaking hub for the biomedical sector.
A representative from the Health Education News Department of Guangzhou Daily introduced Version 2.0 of the platform at the expo. The platform innovatively establishes a service system integrating four value chains: clinical demand chains drive innovation chains, while achievement translation chains energize industrial chains. Four core functional modules have been rolled out: Find PI, Policy Library, Performance Tracking and Achievement Selection. Dedicated demand submission portals collect requirements from hospitals and enterprises, which are reviewed and released on a regular basis. Enterprises may instantly access municipal policies supporting high-quality biomedical industrial development, retrieve information on outstanding specialized PIs and research teams, and conduct real-time matching against corporate technical bottlenecks, forming a closed-loop ecosystem of demand release, targeted push notifications and one-click connection.
A new real-time contract signing module has been added to the platform as an official supporting tool of the expo. As of press time, platform data shows that 14 cooperation and letter-of-intent agreements have been reached during this expo with a total intended investment exceeding RMB 3 billion. Two dedicated submission modules collect targeted demands including joint clinical research projects, clinical trial proposals to be carried out in Guangzhou, subject recruitment for ongoing clinical trials, and translational projects open for investment attraction.
In addition, the platform features a Resource Exhibition zone and a special Hospital-Enterprise Cooperation column. Leveraging well-known media IPs of Guangzhou Daily such as High-Level Specialties, dedicated space is reserved for in-depth media coverage of outstanding collaborative projects.
The launch of integrated online and offline hospital-enterprise cooperation platforms forms part of systematic measures designed to drive mutual reinforcement and dual growth of healthcare undertakings and the biomedical industry.
As the core engine city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou boasts top-tier medical service capacity nationwide. The city hosts over 7,600 medical and health institutions including 50 Grade A tertiary hospitals, with annual outpatient visits exceeding 194 million and residents’ average life expectancy reaching 83.82 years. More than 6,500 biomedical enterprises have clustered in Guangzhou, including 12 Fortune Global 500 firms, nearly 30 listed companies and over 1,000 high-tech enterprises, placing the city among the nation’s top tier in industrial scale.
In recent years, Guangzhou has coordinated five key resource categories — talent, capital, land, technology and data — to fully advance biomedical industrial development.
Talent: Guangzhou is home to one of the largest concentrations of medical universities and university students nationwide, boasting a robust talent base. Targeted incentive policies for high-end professionals have been continuously optimized in recent years.
Medical infrastructure: In May this year, the Women and Children’s Medical Center Affiliated to Guangzhou Medical University was designated a National Children’s Medical Center, bringing the total number of national and regional medical centers in Guangzhou to 8 and further consolidating its status as one of China’s three major national medical hubs. Abundant clinical resources drive rising clinical demands while accelerating the translation of scientific achievements, creating broad application scenarios for innovative drugs and medical devices.
The event “Digital Intelligent Healthcare Gathering in Guangzhou” for releasing municipal digital healthcare achievements was held at the expo on the afternoon of August 21.
Capital: Guangzhou has established a RMB 150 billion industrial investment parent fund, a RMB 500 billion venture capital parent fund, a RMB 10 billion angel fund and a RMB 20 billion special biomedical fund. Financial empowerment policies such as investment-loan linkage have also been rolled out.
Land: Biomedical industrial parks have been specially planned and constructed in Huangpu, Nansha, Yuexiu and Liwan Districts in line with territorial spatial planning.
