On August 23, the three-day 2026 Guangzhou Medical and Health Industry Expo (hereinafter referred to as the Guangzhou Medical Expo) successfully closed at Area B of the China Import and Export Fair Complex. Hosted by the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality and coordinated by the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission and the Municipal Cooperation Office, the expo is one of the core exhibitions of the 34th Guangzhou Fair. It is the country’s first full-industry-chain professional medical and health expo overseen by health authorities. Covering a total exhibition area of 30,000 square meters, the expo set up 3 themed pavilions and 8 functional exhibition zones, with more than 215 participating organizations.

Statistics show the expo drew nearly 80,000 professional visitors and general citizens during the three days. Delegates from 14 provinces including Sichuan, Henan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong, as well as countries and regions such as Singapore, the Republic of Korea and Australia, came for exchanges. Professional visitors accounted for over 60% of all attendees, delivering a dual-value outcome: a business cooperation hub for industry insiders and a wellness experience platform for the public.

Fruitful Hospital-Enterprise Matching: Intended Cooperation Value Tops RMB 3.2 Billion

The most remarkable achievement of the expo lies in in-depth hospital-enterprise docking. All 50 Grade A tertiary hospitals in Guangzhou participated as demand-side exhibitors, systematically submitting over 300 clinical cooperation demands covering 12 core sectors such as intelligent imaging diagnosis, rehabilitation robots, in-hospital TCM preparations and domestic substitution of high-value medical consumables.

The expo pioneered a full-cycle closed-loop service system: intelligent pre-show matching, dedicated on-site negotiation teams, and long-term post-show follow-up via standardized ledgers. One-on-one negotiation booths maintained high activity throughout the event. The value of memorandums of understanding publicly signed at the dedicated signing zone alone surpassed RMB 3.2 billion (self-signed deals at individual booths are still being tallied). All signed projects have been filed into a dynamic reserve database with assigned specialists to drive implementation.

Leveraging the Guangzhou-Chengdu Mutual Recognition Mechanism for Innovative Medicines and Medical Devices, Chengdu organized its first delegation of tertiary hospitals and innovative medtech enterprises to attend, alongside a special forum on cross-regional collaborative application of innovative pharmaceuticals and devices.

Full Industrial Chain Gathers to Showcase Cutting-edge Achievements

Exhibitors spanned the entire medical and health industrial chain, bringing together national-level research platforms including the Guangzhou Laboratory, Sun Yat-sen University (which exhibited jointly for the first time with 3 schools and 7 affiliated hospitals), South China University of Technology and the CAS Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health; over 60 world-leading enterprises such as Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings, China Resources, Medtronic, BeiGene, Hengrui Medicine and Xiuzheng Pharmaceutical; and all 50 local Grade A tertiary hospitals.

During the expo, institutions including Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangzhou Laboratory unveiled 23 industrializable breakthrough achievements, covering strategic fields including cell and gene therapy, radiopharmaceutical R&D and brain-computer interfaces.

All 25 parallel conferences and special events concluded successfully, covering hot frontier sectors: innovative medicines and devices, advanced biomedical technologies, AI-enabled healthcare, brain-computer interfaces, nuclear medicine, cell and gene therapy, inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine, hospital-enterprise demand-supply matching, and research commercialization. Experts from the National Health Commission, Health Commission of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Department of Health, Macao Health Bureau, Beijing, Shanghai, Australia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and other regions gathered for in-depth exchanges.

People-oriented Wellness Services Deliver Warm Benefits; A Permanent Hospital-Enterprise Matching Platform Established

Free public experience activities were available throughout the expo, including AI health screening, intelligent TCM diagnosis and treatment, medicinal and edible herb tastings, and free dermatology & medical aesthetic consultations. Live demonstrations of distinctive TCM therapies and health science lectures were also held to bring cutting-edge medical technologies to residents.

After the expo, the organizing committee created standardized ledgers for over 300 cooperation intentions collected before and during the event, with dedicated staff conducting follow-up visits. An online platform will continuously release supply and demand information and host regular hospital-enterprise exchange events. The three-day offline expo is transformed into a year-round industrial matching engine, forming an effective closed loop: hosting one expo, accumulating a batch of projects, and activating the whole industrial chain, thus building a permanent hospital-enterprise docking platform.
