On the afternoon of August 22, the exchange event themed A City of Vibrant Opportunities – High-quality Development of the Biomedical Industry was successfully staged as a featured supporting activity of the 2026 Guangzhou Medical and Health Industry Expo.
The event brought together government authorities, enterprises and research institutions to conduct in-depth discussions on core topics including AI-enabled medical device testing, innovative technical services for review and approval, industrial park construction & investment promotion, policy interpretation, as well as financial and medical insurance support.
During keynote presentations:
The Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology introduced Guangzhou’s complete industrial ecosystem for biomedicine.
The Municipal Financial Work Office outlined financial incentive policies supporting local biomedical growth.
The Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau shared measures and outcomes of medical insurance policies that boost innovative drugs and medical devices.
Representatives from multiple institutions delivered dedicated briefings respectively: the Guangzhou Medical Device Inspection Center, Huangpu District New Drug Application Service Center, Yuexiu District Bureau of Science, Technology, Industry and Information Technology, Guangzhou International Bio Island Group, and Nansha Science & Industry Development Co., Ltd. shared insights covering inspection services, streamlined approval models, Health City planning, full-spectrum industrial service systems, and investment promotion in Nansha District.
As the core driving city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou boasts top-tier medical service capacity nationwide. The city hosts over 7,600 medical and health institutions including 50 Grade A tertiary hospitals, with annual outpatient visits exceeding 194 million and residents’ average life expectancy reaching 83.82 years.
More than 6,500 biomedical enterprises have clustered in Guangzhou, including 12 Fortune Global 500 firms, 30 listed companies and over 1,000 high-tech enterprises, placing the city among the nation’s top tier in industrial scale. In the first half of this year, the Municipal Health Commission rolled out ten special measures to further advance the Hong Kong & Macao Drug & Device Access Scheme, alongside twelve innovative policies supporting international medical services, vigorously advancing the development of healthcare and biomedicine.
A standout highlight of this expo is the participation of all 50 Grade A tertiary hospitals across Guangzhou as demand-side participants. To date, they have submitted more than 300 clinical cooperation requirements covering 12 core sectors such as intelligent imaging diagnosis, rehabilitation robots, in-hospital TCM preparations, and domestic substitution of high-value medical consumables.
The expo pioneered a full-cycle closed-loop service mechanism: intelligent pre-matching before the exhibition, dedicated on-site coordination teams during the event, and long-term follow-up tracking post-exhibition. One-on-one negotiation booths are arranged throughout the venue with full-time professional staff offering one-stop support ranging from matchmaking to policy consultation.
The exhibition lineup covers the entire healthcare industrial chain, gathering research platforms including Guangzhou Laboratory and Sun Yat-sen University, leading enterprises such as Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings, China Resources, Medtronic, BeiGene, Hengrui Medicine and BGI Genomics, plus all 50 municipal tertiary hospitals. Sun Yat-sen University organized a joint booth for 3 schools and 7 affiliated hospitals for the first time, releasing over 30 cutting-edge industrialization achievements on site spanning cell and gene therapy, radiopharmaceutical R&D, brain-computer interfaces and other strategic fields.
Leveraging the Guangzhou-Chengdu Mutual Recognition Mechanism for Innovative Drugs and Devices, Chengdu City dispatched a delegation of tertiary hospitals and biotech innovators for the first time, hosting a special cross-regional coordination exchange session.
Furthermore, free public experience activities are open to all citizens throughout the expo, including AI health screening, intelligent TCM diagnosis, medicinal-edible herb tastings, and free dermatology & medical aesthetics consultations. Live demonstrations of characteristic TCM techniques and health science lectures run concurrently, achieving a dual-layer exhibition goal: industry professionals negotiate partnerships while ordinary citizens gain access to wellness resources.
From the Hong Kong & Macao Drug & Device Access Scheme to fast-track hospital admission for innovative medical products, from hundred-billion-yuan industrial funds to the multi-layer "1+N" policy framework, Guangzhou delivers a distinctive "Guangzhou Solution" for global medical innovation with an open mindset and mature industrial ecosystem. This wellness wave brimming with opportunities and visions will undoubtedly send a powerful Guangzhou-driven echo across the global industrial landscape.
