Radiating Qihuang Heritage across Yangcheng, Upholding Tradition & Pursuing Innovation for Public Well-being

From August 21 to 23, the 2026 Guangzhou Medical and Health Industry Expo themed "Driving Healthcare via Innovation, Linking the Globe through the Bay Area" grandly opened in Area B of the Canton Fair Complex. Hosted by the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, this expo is the nation’s first full-industry-chain professional medical and health expo coordinated by health authorities. It pooled premium medical resources from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, covering a total exhibition area of 30,000 square meters with over 215 participating organizations. Panyu Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (Panyu District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine) made a brilliant appearance carrying century-old TCM heritage and innovative achievements. Its over 100-square-meter featured booth paired with exclusive academic forums stood out as a distinguished cultural showcase of traditional Chinese medicine at the expo.

Academic Summit: Masters of Chinese Medicine Lead Discussions to Chart New Prospects for Bone-setting Therapy

On the morning of August 21, the hospital successfully hosted the academic conference Ancient Techniques for Modern Use, Digital Intelligence Safeguards Bone Health – Innovative Yushan Bone-setting Therapy for Public Wellness in Conference Area 3, Hall 12.2. Zhong Shoubin, Director of the TCM Administration Division of Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission, Zhuo Yufeng, Deputy Director of Panyu District Health Bureau, and Ma Haiyan, Party Secretary of Panyu District Hospital of TCM, delivered opening remarks in succession. They highly recognized the outstanding accomplishments of the Yushan Bone-setting Team in inheriting traditional crafts, preventing and treating spinal disorders among children and adolescents, and delivering grassroots public welfare medical services.

Professor Wei Jian, direct disciple of National Master of Chinese Medicine Wei Guikang, delivered a keynote speech titled Uphold Tradition, Pursue Innovation to Carry Forward Qihuang Heritage, Empower Public Wellness with Digital Intelligence. He systematically sorted out the integrated development path of Wei’s Musculoskeletal System and Yushan Bone-setting Therapy, injecting robust academic momentum into disciplinary upgrading.

Opening Speeches at the Conference

During the academic sharing session, Chief Physicians Chen Kaiqi and Liu Feng, and Associate Chief Physician Lao Zehui from Panyu District Hospital of TCM took the stage one after another, sharing in-depth insights on the inheritance and innovation of Yushan bone-setting manipulations, prevention and treatment of adolescent scoliosis, and floating acupuncture for neck, shoulder, waist and leg pain. The subsequent live demonstration of bone-setting manipulations and free public clinics allowed visitors to experience the unique curative effects of traditional TCM bone-setting and the compassionate care of medical practitioners firsthand.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Treasure: Lingnan Herbal Paste Fragrance Captivates Visitors with Timeless TCM Techniques

At the exhibition booth, the hospital showcased two signature highlights for the first time: the National Old Herbalist Inheritance Studio of Wang Yeming under the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Lingnan Herbal Paste Preparation Craftsmanship, listed in the 9th batch of Guangzhou Municipal Intangible Cultural Heritage. The booth drew an endless stream of citizens. More than 2,000 visitors sampled Lingnan herbal pastes, concentrated herbal decoctions and specialty herbal teas on site. Visitors could scan QR codes for free constitution identification, with 221 citizens registering orders for herbal pastes tailored to the nine traditional Chinese medicine constitutions. The wellness philosophy of medicinal and edible herbs alongside convenient oral herbal pastes fully demonstrates the vast market potential of TCM preventive healthcare.

Public Welfare Medical Services: Multi-disciplinary Free Clinics Deliver Warm Care, TCM Nursing Earns Wide Acclaim

Over the three days of the expo, a team of specialists from orthopedics, acupuncture & rehabilitation, respiratory and critical care medicine, internal medicine, obesity and metabolic diseases, dermatology and other departments provided on-site free consultations, serving more than 3,000 citizens in total. The TCM nursing zone was especially bustling, with long queues forming for experiences of TCM appropriate techniques including auricular point pressing and warming cupping therapy. TCM nurses worked tirelessly from morning till evening, yet gained immense fulfillment from their work. Li Xi, Chief Physician of the hospital’s Dermatology Department and the 6th-generation inheritor of Lingnan Fire Acupuncture Therapy—a Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage—was interviewed by multiple media outlets, further expanding the influence and reach of traditional Chinese medicine culture.

Setting Sail for New Progress: Boost Confidence to Forge Ahead, Burnish Panyu’s TCM Brand

Through this medical expo, Panyu Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (Panyu District Hospital of TCM) not only displayed its remarkable achievements in TCM development, but also strengthened its resolve to step outside ward boundaries and serve the general public. Moving forward, leveraging flagship products such as herbal pastes and prospective intangible cultural heritage items, the hospital will accelerate R&D of medicinal and edible herbal products. It will also actively seek superior authorities’ support to launch online hospital follow-up consultation services and home delivery of TCM preparations covering the whole Guangdong Province as soon as possible, meeting diverse TCM wellness demands of people across the Greater Bay Area and worldwide.

Though the expo has concluded, the inheritance of TCM heritage marches on without pause. Upholding the original aspiration of "upholding tradition, pursuing innovation and benefiting all people", Panyu District Hospital of TCM will bring signature specialties including Lingnan herbal pastes and Yushan bone-setting therapy to every household, contributing greater TCM strength to people’s health and well-being.
